Monthly Accounting Services

Most business owners start out doing their own books. That works fine when the business is small. It works less well once you’ve added employees, more customers, more vendors, and more decisions that depend on knowing where the money actually is.

What monthly accounting actually includes

Depending on your business, that’s some combination of bank and credit card reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, payroll accounting, general ledger maintenance, and monthly financial statements: profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow. We scale it to what your business needs, not a one-size package.

The difference between annual and monthly

With annual bookkeeping, you find out how last year went sometime around April. With monthly accounting, you find out whether this month’s revenue is up, whether payroll is creeping past what it should be, or whether a customer’s balance has been outstanding for ninety days, while there’s still time to act on it. Financial information that’s six months old tells you what happened. It doesn’t help you decide what to do next.

Revenue can be misleading on its own

A strong sales month doesn’t always mean a profitable one. We’ve seen plenty of businesses post record revenue in a month when expenses grew even faster. Monthly reporting is what surfaces that, not a bank balance, which tells you almost nothing about whether the business is actually making money.

Tax season gets easier, not harder

If your books are reconciled every month, your CPA isn’t spending February reconstructing a year of transactions before the actual tax work can start. That usually means less cleanup, fewer surprises, and a tax return that’s the last step in a process, not the first time anyone looked closely at the numbers.

Who this is for

We work with contractors, construction companies, schools, daycares, restaurants, hotels, resorts, hospitality businesses, nonprofits, and plenty of businesses that don’t fit neatly into any category. You don’t need to belong to a particular industry. You need books that are behind, financial statements you don’t fully trust, or simply better things to do with your evenings than reconcile a bank account.

Signs it might be time

If your books are consistently behind, you’re not sure what your actual profitability is, invoices are going uncollected longer than they should, or tax season always means weeks of cleanup first. That’s usually the point where outsourced monthly accounting starts to pay for itself.
